Uvarovite is an attractive and bright-green gemstone in the garnet family. Its color is due to the presence of chromium. The crystals of Uvarovite are very fragile, with sub-conchoidal to uneven fracture.
Uvarovite garnet crystals display crystals on their face. They sometimes appear in the skarn matrix.
Occurrence
Uvarovite garnet is found in serpentine rocks. The best clear crystals are from the Urals in Russia, lining cavities or rock fissures. Other sources are Finland, Italy, and Turkey.
