Rose Quartz is the pink or peach-colored variety of the quartz family. It is mainly used in decorative carvings. The color of rose quartz is thought to be due to the presence of small amounts of titanium. Crystals of rose quartz are very rare. It is usual to find massive lumps, which can be carved, or cut en cabochon or as beads.
A transparent stone is not common. It is usually cloudy or cracked, partly because it is very brittle. Rutile inclusions in rose quartz may produce a star effect when the stone is cut en cabochon.
Occurrence
Rose Quartz is found in pegmatites. The best stone is from Madagascar, but Brazil produces a greater quantity. Other localities are Scotland, the former USSR, Spain, and Colorado (USA).
