Phosphophyllite is one of the rarest gemstones. Nevertheless, it is highly prized by collectors. A phosphophyllite crystal is prismatic or with a thick, tabular habit. It ranges from colorless to deep bluish-green. However, the best stone is a very delicate bluish-green. Nevertheless, phosphophyllite is rarely cut, as the stone is fragile and brittle. Similarly, a large phosphophyllite is too valuable to be broken up.
Occurrence
Gem-quality phosphophyllite crystals occur in Bolivia. Other localities include New Hampshire (USA) and Germany.
