Kunzite is the lilac-pink variety of spodumene. The pink color is due to the presence of manganese. Its color may fade with time, but some material is irradiated to intensify it. Kunzite is named after the gemologist G.F. Kunz, who first described it in 1902.
Occurrence
Kunzite occurs in Afghanistan, Brazil, Sweden, Mexico, the USSR, Madagascar, the USA, and Myanmar (Burma).
