Hiddenite is the emerald-green variety of spodumene. The green color is due to the presence of chromium. Hiddenite is named after W.E. Hidden, who discovered it in North Carolina (USA) in 1879. It is common to find the stone in a gneiss matrix. A hiddenite crystal may occur in the form of fragments.
Occurrence
Hiddenite occurs in Afghanistan, Brazil, Myanmar (Burma), the USSR, the USA, Canada, Madagascar, Sweden, and Mexico.
