Garnet-Topped Doublet is a gemstone made of two separate garnet pieces. It is cemented together to create the appearance of a precious gemstone. Glass topped by red almandine garnet is the most common form, with green glass used to imitate emerald and blue to imitate sapphire. Once joined, the stone is faceted and polished.
Garnet-Topped Doublet was a very popular gemstone in Britain and the rest of Europe during the Victorian era.
