Datolite occurs as a transparent and colorless crystal and is cut for collectors only. A tinge of yellow, white, or green may be present in the stone. More often, however, datolite is found as a massive material. It may contain copper inclusions.
Occurrence
Datolite is commonly mined in Italy, Austria, the USA, Norway, England, and Germany. However, the main source of massive datolite with inclusions is the Lake Superior area of North America.
