Chrysocolla usually occurs as a bright green or bluish crust or as compact, grape-like groups. Crystals inter-grown with quartz or opal are more commonly used in jewelry. It is normal to find brown patches of copper ore on the surface of chrysocolla stone. The rough crystals are very small (micro-crystalline).
Occurrence
Chrysocolla is found in copper-mining areas, including the former USSR, Chile, and Zaire. ‘Eilat stone’ (inter-grown with malachite and turquoise) reputedly came from King Solomon’s mines.
