Cerussite is a colorless stone that may also occur in grey, black, and white specimens. Its two most distinct features are its high density and adamantine luster. Crystals have a stubby tabular or elongate habit. Although attractive, it is too soft to have much value as a gemstone, is solely cut for collectors.
Cerussite is sometimes confused with diamond and other colorless gems. However, it may be distinguished by its higher density.
Occurrence
Cerussite is usually found around lead ores. Large, clear, transparent, colorless, and gem-quality crystals have been found in Tsumeb (Namibia). Other localities include Sardinia (Italy), Germany, Scotland, the USA, Austria, Australia, and Czech Republic/Slovakia.
