Albite is one of the six species in the plagioclase feldspar series. Each of these is defined by its albite and anorthite content. Albite itself has the highest albite content. It is usually white, though a gem-quality stone is mostly colorless. Peristerite, an albite-oligoclase mix, has a blue sheen, like moonstone. The rough of the gemstone occurs as cream-colored opaque crystals.
Occurrence
The best albite (peristerite) is from Canada.
